Carbolite HTBL MO/W Bottom Loading Furnace, Metal Insulation

The HTBL MO/HTBL W is a bottom-loading furnace system with metallic insulation and heating elements.

The HTBL MO/W is a furnace system that loads from the bottom and uses metallic insulation and heating elements. The metallic furnaces come in a 60-litre volume. The HTBL 60 MO/16-1G has a maximum temperature of 1600°C and uses molybdenum radiation shields and heating elements. The HTBL 60 W/22-1G has a maximum temperature of 2200°C and uses tungsten radiation shields and heating elements. These metallic versions of the HTBL are ideal for creating the purest atmospheres and achieving the best working vacuum level.

One significant advantage of the HTBL-type furnace is that it is easy to load and unload. Once the hearth is lowered, the sample becomes accessible from all sides without any limitations. Sample loading is very user-friendly, especially for delicate samples. Placing sample thermocouples at specified locations within the chamber is also possible. The HTBL can also use a retort. The loading area moves automatically and is driven by a hydraulic arm. Once the loading area reaches the lowest position, the user can manually rotate the loading platform outward by 90°.

Nitrogen, Argon, and Hydrogen gases are available for use as either pure or mixed gas. Other gases can be installed upon request. A slight overpressure or controlled partial pressure can be used in the furnace to establish a defined gas flow. Operation with air is not possible. All gases are controlled by various dosing and controlling devices.

Depending on the vacuum requirements, vacuum pumps are configured specifically for the application or as requested. The temperature is independently controlled to achieve the best uniformity.

The HTBL furnace is made of metallic materials and is equipped with one heating zone, which is called the mantle heater. This heater is made of either tungsten or molybdenum. The insulation for the heat is provided by radiation shields that are constructed from the same material as the heating elements. Standard HTBL systems use nine radiation shields that surround the heating elements. However, if a lower maximum temperature is required, reducing the number of radiation shields is possible. The HTBL is well-suited for high vacuum processes, with a diameter of 400mm and a heated length of 500mm. Both molybdenum and tungsten exhibit very low vapour pressure, even at high temperatures. Once the maximum temperature is achieved, the heating elements become brittle and need to be handled with care.

Additionally, all models are equipped with fully automated software and reliable data logging for later process evaluation. All process data is measured and logged at predefined intervals. Automated control and high volume units are especially suited for industrial applications and large scale production.
